How do I get access to full-text articles on SpringerLink?
For online access to full-text articles in a journal, eBook, book series or
reference work on SpringerLink, you or your institution should be a
registered subscriber to that journal or eBook package. For detailed

Why should I register with SpringerLink?
Registration allows you to benefit as an individual user who is able to use our special personalization features such as RSS feeds, Favorites linking, saved items and free samples. Additionally, an individual registration allows you to purchase electronic journal articles and book chapters on SpringerLink and save them in your “Order History”.

How do I register with SpringerLink as a new customer?
Registration is free and simple. From any page on SpringerLink, please click on the "Register Now" link located in the
“My SpringerLink” area in the grey tool bar under the masthead. You will click on the radio button next to the
“Register Individual” and click continue. You will then enter the email address you would like associated with your
account and match the images in the CAPTCHA control box. You will then click on the box to accept the terms of use
and click continue. You can then fill-in simple contact information and create a username and password that you will
use to access the site in the future. Please note that your username must be at least four characters in length and your
password must be at least six characters in length. Your password may not contain your username and must contain at least
one alphabetic character and one numeric character. When you have completed the registration information, please click
the “Continue” button.
At this point, if you have a received a token access code, please click on “Enter Token” in the navigation panel on the left
side of the screen. After you have entered your token access code in the box provided please click “Continue”. If you have not
received a token access code and have a valid paid subscription or affiliation, please notify the SpringerLink helpdesk at
springerlink@springer.com.
Once you have filled out all necessary fields and registration is complete, an e-mail notification with your login credentials
will be automatically sent to your email address. If you registered within context you will be returned to the page you were at
before registering. If you registered from the masthead controls you will be taken to the “My SpringerLink” section to manage
your account if you wish. The My SpringerLink page provides you with an eight-digit identification number (MetaPress ID) that
will be handy if you ever need to contact the SpringerLink helpdesk. From the My SpringerLink homepage you can manage saved items,
account details, view order history and invoices, and enter any token access codes you may have been given.

Where can I get more information on Athens and Shibboleth?
Athens allows individuals to use single sign-on to access web resources, thus reducing the administrative burden for librarians and information managers. Springer continues to support customers who choose Athens access. For more information regarding Athens, please visit http://www.athens.ac.uk/.
Shibboleth is a standards based, open source software package for web single sign-on, allowing sites to make informed authorization decisions for individual access of protected online resources in a privacy-preserving manner. Springer currently supports access via the institution login located in the login area on the right side of the screen in the masthead. For more information about Shibboleth please visit http://shibboleth.internet2.edu/.

How do I set up my institution for Athens or Shibboleth?
If you have not already set up your institution for access via Athens or Shibboleth,
you should contact the SpringerLink Helpdesk at
springerlink@springer.com,
providing your Athens ID or Shibboleth IdP and MetaPress ID.
The SpringerLink Helpdesk will then take care of your institutional patrons Athens or
Shibboleth login via the institutional login on SpringerLink. After Athens or Shibboleth
sets up your institution for access on SpringerLink, the SpringerLink helpdesk will
contact you back confirming the authentication activation.
